The Klein project is an initiative of the International Comision for Mathematical Instruction (ICMI), which is the maximum international institution regarding Math Education. The project is inspired by Felix Klein’s famous book Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Standpoint, published one century ago.  It is intended as a stimulus for mathematics teachers, so to help them to make connections between the mathematics they teach, or can be asked to teach, and the field of mathematics, while taking into account the evolution of this field over the last century. The design team of the Project is International panel of eight people, chaired by Bill Barton (New Zealand) and having Tomás Recio as one of its members.

As part of the Project, several “Klein conferences” are going to take place around the World, the first one in Madeira in October 2009.

CIEM will organize  a Klein conference in Spain in June 2010. Several members of the design team will attend, but the main goal of the conference is to give the spanish mathematical community as a whole the oportunity of getting involved in the Project, by making explicit suggestions and by helping the team answer the main questions it needs to answer (such as “What parts of 20th Century mathematical developments should secondary school teachers be aware of, and how to make them accessible”?)
